The Role of Gabaergic Inhibition in Modulating Receptive Field Size of Cuneate Neurons Thesis

چکیده
3 79 A8f A*. Blockade of GABAergic inhibition increases receptive field (RF) size of most somatosensory cortex (SI) and some ventrobasal thalamus (VB) neurons. To determine if GABA-mediated inhibition controls RF size of cuneate neurons, GAB A and GAB A receptor antagonists were applied by iontophoresis. Glutamate was applied to determine if firing frequency affected RF size. Twenty-nine of thirty-six neurons showed an RF expansion during GABA A receptor blockade. Eleven of nineteen neurons showed an RF expansion during GABAG receptor blockade. Glutamate affected the RF size of only two of twenty-nine neurons. The results suggest RF size of cuneate neurons may be modulated through GAB A a and GABAG receptors, independent of firing frequency. Effect of phasic electrical locus coeruleus stimulation on inhibitory and excitatory receptive fields of layer V barrel cortex neurons in male rat
Introduction: It is believed that Locus Coeruleus (LC) influences the sensory information processing. However, its role in cortical surround inhibitory mechanism is not understood. In this experiment, using controlled mechanical displacement of whiskers we investigated the effect of phasic electrical stimulation of LC on response of layer V barrel cortical neurons in anesthetized rat. Methods: ...

In the somatosensory system, cuneolemniscal (CL) cells fire high frequency doublets of spikes facilitating the transmission of sensory information to diencephalic target cells. We studied how lemniscal feedback affects ascending transmission of cutaneous neurons of the middle cuneate nucleus. Electrical stimulation of the contralateral medial lemniscus and of the skin at sites evoking responses...

Medial lemniscal activity decreases before and during movement, suggesting prethalamic modulation, but the underlying mechanisms are largely unknown. Here we studied the mechanisms underlying proprioceptive transmission at the midventral cuneate nucleus (mvCN) of anesthetized cats using standard extracellular recordings combined with electrical stimulation and microiontophoresis. Dual simultane...
متن کاملContribution of GABAergic inhibition to receptive field structures of monkey inferior temporal neurons.
Receptive field (RF) structures of neurons in area TE of the monkey inferior temporal cortex were investigated under blockade of inhibition mediated by gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). Bicuculline methiodide, a GABA(A) receptor antagonist, was microiontophoretically administered to TE neurons. Blockade of inhibition enhanced responses to a particular range of visual stimuli not only at the RF ce...
متن کاملMicroinfusion of Bupropion Inhibits Putative GABAergic Neuronal Activity of the Ventral Tegmental Area
Introduction: The most common interpretation for the mechanisms of antidepression is the increase of the brain monoamine levels such as dopamine (DA). The increase of DA can reduce depression but it can also decrease the monoamine release because of autoreceptor inhibition. Although bupropion can decrease the dopamine release, there is evidence about stimulatory effects of chronic application o...
